An SN24 source told this publication that three clubs in the DStv Premiership have made informal enquiries on the availability of JDR Stars forward Ishmael Wadi.

Ishmael Wadi will see his contract with JDR Stars end on June 30, and it is increasingly unlikely that he will extend his stay with the club.

A source within the club told SN24 that three clubs had enquired about the Zimbabwean’s availability and will be looking to pounce once he becomes a free agent on July 1.

AmaZulu, Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United have all shown keen interest in Wadi, with the view of snapping him up for the new season.

“It doesn’t look like he’ll sign a new deal at JDR. He wanted to move to the PSL last season, but the move to AmaZulu flopped. He certainly won’t be staying in the Motsepe Foundation Championship,” the source said.

The Warriors international was on the verge of joining AmaZulu in the August transfer window.

Negotiations were said to have advanced with the transfer set to be completed before the window closed.

However, the deal failed, and Wadi remained at JDR Stars when the 2022/23 season began.

Since joining JDR, Wadi has established himself as the club’s reliable goal scorer. Last season he scored nine goals in all competitions in 29 appearances for JDR.

He started the current season on a high note, with a hattrick that helped JDR Stars beat Magesi 6-0.

At this point, the Zimbabwean international has 11 goals to his name and is four goals behind Motsepe Foundation Championship leading scorer Ashley Cupido of Cape Town Spurs, who has 15 goals.

Wadi joined JDR in July 2021 from Zimbabwean side Caps United on a two-year deal but will soon look to begin the next chapter of his professional football career in the coming months.

The Pretoria-based side is in sixth position on the Motsepe Foundation Championship log standings and has an outside chance of making it to the promotional play-offs.
