Questions over Nkanyiso Zungu’s Orlando Pirates future have been answered following his abrupt exit from Richards Bay recently.
Zungu was axed by the KZN side, where he was on loan, two months before the end of the contract.
The 27-year-old made a switch to Richards Bay at the start of the season, and he was meant to stay until the end of the season.
However, following what sources called “bad lifestyle choices”, the club decided to part company with him.
Although Natal Rich Boyz did not disclose his transgressions, his agent Mike Makaab has given the strongest hint that it was “personal issues”.
“And, as I said, the most important thing is for us to give him the right sort of support and advice. And for his family and friends to do exactly the same. Give him the right support and the right advice because he’s a super-talented player.
“He’s just got to get his personal issues under control, and if he does, I still believe in the young man. I think he’s got so much to prove,” Makaab told Simtho Dladla on Gagasi FM.
According to his agent, the midfielder will not be returning to Pirates as earlier anticipated.
He joined Orlando Pirates from Stellenbosch FC midway through the 2019/20 season in a three-year deal. At the end of June, he would have run the course of the contract. However, Pirates have the option to extend.

Makaab explained: “No, he’s not going back to Pirates. His contract with Pirates has come to an end. They had the option to extend his contract, which they haven’t exercised it. So, at the end of June, Nkanyiso will be a free agent.”
While he had hoped to get game time at Richards Bay, Zungu struggled partly because of injuries.
He only made 12 appearances in all competitions, netting just one goal. He was on target when the DStv Premiership debutants crashed out of the Nedbank Cup at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns in February.
The Buccaneers are not short of options in midfield, with the likes of Kabelo Dlamini, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, Fortune Makaringe, Thabang Monare and others.
During his two-and-a-half years at the Buccaneers, he made just 17 appearances in the PSL.
