After an excellent start to the season, Kgaogelo Sekgota has struggled for game-time at Kaizer Chiefs.

In recent weeks, Arthur Zwane has opted for Christian Saile, Ashley Du Preez and Keagan Dolly as his front three.

With Chiefs going on a six-game unbeaten run before their weekend loss to Sekhukhune United, it was difficult to break into the team.

Nonetheless, the winger has remained resolute as he tries to fight back into the team.

“I have been working hard and getting motivation from the technical team. Obviously, everything has its moment. All in good time, so it’s good,” he told the club’s website.

After the 1-0 loss, Sekgota admits the chips were down at the club. However, the Bafana Bafana fringe player says they take solace in that there is still a lot to play for.

Chiefs are in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup, where they face archnemesis Orlando Pirates on May 6 at the FNB Stadium.

“We won a few games in a row, and obviously, it’s sad when, as Kaizer Chiefs, you lose a game, but we still have a lot to play for. We’ve got the Nedbank Cup semi-final.”

The target, he said, was to finish the season strong “as far up as possible”. He added that it was a collective desire that everyone was working towards.

Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane takes his charges to Gqeberha on Thursday, where they face a Chippa United side under the fifth coach this season.

Daine Klate, Morgan Mammila, Kurt Lentjies, Siya Gwambi, and now Lehlohonolo Seema have taken turns steering the ship.

The DStv Premiership Freedom Day fixture takes place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm, and Sekgota is confident Amakhosi are well prepared for the tie.

“Chippa have a good team, with good players, but we are also good, and we are ready for them and looking forward to the game,” he said.

He knows the relegation-threatened Chippa will take a lot of work to beat.
