The late Ian Palmer’s teenage nephew Brodwyn Palmer is on the verge of joining a PSL side.

The 22-year-old started the season at Motsepe Foundation Championship side MM Platinum [La Masia].

Although he had signed a one-year deal [with an option of one], the two parties agreed to terminate midway through the season.

The attacking midfielder had featured five times for the club and became a free agent after cutting ties with the club.

PALMER ON THE VERGE OF JOINING SUNDOWNS

An SN24 source told this publication that the youngster arrived at Mamelodi Sundowns for an assessment last week.

“He arrived at Sundowns for an assessment last week. The idea is for him to play in M-Tigers, where the club will monitor him. He has impressed the likes of Godfrey Sapula and Surprise Moriri so far,” explained the source.

The dribbling wizard debuted at Black Leopards in the 2021/22 season. The club offered him his first professional contract at 19 after being developed at Stars of Africa under Farouk Khan.

The youngster is following in his uncle’s footsteps in pursuing a professional football career.

ABILITY TO READ THE GAME

He primarily plays as a number 10 but can also be a right-winger. Palmer uses both feet and is credited for his awareness and ability to read the game.

Ian Palmer made his name as a prolific striker for Orlando Pirates during his heydays. After hanging his boots, he took up coaching and was at the helm of clubs, including Leopards and Maritzburg United, among other clubs.

He passed on in July 2021. His nephew Brodwyn Palmer carved a name for himself in Kasi tournaments, where he often featured for La Masia. 

After joining the club at seven, Farouk Khan then developed him at Stars of Africa. He spent nine years at the academy before moving to Leopards.
