AmaZulu Football Club are angling for a reunion with a Kaizer Chiefs star who started his professional career with them.

The KwaZulu Natal outfit has not done well this season and is not far off from the relegation zone.

The club recently demoted Coach Romain Folz and assigned club legend Ayanda Dlamini to take over until the end of the season.

News reaching SN24 is that Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo is seeking a move away from the club after struggling for game time this season.

The likely destination is AmaZulu, where he started his professional football career.

“There is interest from AmaZulu. Of course, with a new coach coming in, it may be a bit tricky. But if the new coach says he likes him, he will join them,” a source told SN24.

Meanwhile, Sandile Zungu confirmed to SN24 that the club had extended former Orlando Pirates defender Thembela Sikhakhane’s stay at the club.

He recently put pen to paper on a new two-year contract at AmaZulu.

Speculation was rife surrounding the right back after he entered the last six months of his deal. However, that has been finally put to bed with the news of his new contract.

This puts an end to talk that the 30-year-old was high on the wanted list of Kaizer Chiefs, who are believed to be looking for a right-back.

The player’s original deal was due to expire in June this year, at which point he would have been able to leave the club as a free agent.

Sikhakhane has appeared in 23 of the 25 league matches played by Usuthu this season. Last season, he played 24 DStv Premiership matches.

The versatile defender has been in impressive form this season under the mentorship of former coach Brandon Truter and Romain Folz, winning several man-of-the-match awards in the DStv Premiership. He has proven to be a vital cog in the Usuthu defensive unit.

With his future now settled, the defender can focus on finishing the season strongly and helping his club qualify for the top eight as the 2022 /23 campaign ends.

The Kwazulu Natal-based side are 12th on the log standings with 29 points after 25 games.

The 30-year-old joined the club at the beginning of the 2020 /21 season after a failed three years stint at Orlando Pirates. He made 10 appearances in total at the Soweto giants.
