Mamelodi Sundowns are set to announce a five-year deal with Stellenbosch FC midfielder Jayden Adams, culminating days of intense negotiations. Stellies previously declined advances from Sundowns for the Bafana Bafana.

In the last transfer window, they placed a price tag in excess of R30 million on the talented midfielder. However, recent reports suggest Sundowns may have acquired him for significantly less.

Stellenbosch’s reported interest in Lesiba Nku may have influenced their willingness to lower their asking price for Adams.

The highly-rated 23-year-old underwent a successful medical on Tuesday, paving the way for his highly anticipated move to the reigning South African champions.

While Adams’ arrival at Chloorkop will generate excitement among the Sundowns faithful, the reality of breaking into the star-studded midfield will be a daunting task. Sundowns are renowned for their depth and quality across the squad, and the midfield is no exception. The likes of Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas and Marcelo Allende already occupy key midfield positions, creating a fiercely competitive environment. Sphelele Mkhulise and Neo Maema provide further options.

Adams will need to adapt swiftly to earn regular playing time. This season, he has scored three goals and one assist across 22 outings in all competitions. Adams played a key role in helping Stellenbosch FC make history by qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages in their maiden campaign.
