Kwanele Kopo has parted ways with Chippa United, reportedly due to a disagreement over contract terms. The former SuperSport United youth coach was offered a contract extension until the end of the current season, but he was dissatisfied with the proposed terms.
Subsequently, Kopo presented a counter-proposal to the club, which club chairman Chippa Mpengesi ultimately rejected. This impasse led to the mutual decision to terminate negotiations and for Kopo to pursue other opportunities.
Kopo’s demanding nature and strict coaching style have been well-documented. He is known for his high standards and uncompromising approach, often leading to clashes with management who fail to meet his expectations. This uncompromising attitude likely played a role in the contract negotiations, as Kopo may have sought terms that aligned with his specific vision and demands for the team.
This departure marks the end of Kopo’s tenure at Chippa United, leaving Thabo September at the helm. He will be assisted by Mabhuti Khanyeza, who recently left Golden Arrows.

“Chippa United FC confirms that Coach Kwanele Kopo will be stepping down as head coach as his contract officially comes to an end at midnight tonight.
“Coach Kopo joined the club in January 2024 on a one-year contract and played a pivotal role in the team’s journey this past year.
“Despite being offered a contract renewal six months ago, Coach Kopo has opted not to extend his tenure with the club, citing a desire to return to Johannesburg to focus on his family and personal priorities.
