Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed satisfaction with the progress of Brazilian striker Arthur Sales. The 22-year-old joined the Betway Premiership champions from Belgian side Lommel SK ahead of the current season.
Despite facing stiff competition from experienced strikers like Peter Shalulile and Iqraam Rayners, Sales has gradually integrated into the Sundowns squad.
After making his 11th appearance for the club on Saturday, he finally opened his league goal-scoring account against Sekhukhune United. Prior to that, he had already contributed two assists.
Mngqithi believes that Arthur Sales has the potential to become a key player for Sundowns in the future, and he is confident that the young striker will continue to develop and improve.

“What we wish to see is to see him contributing towards us winning matches. As to whether he scores himself or assist or gets a secondary assist that is what it’s important to us than focusing merely on goals,” said Mngqithi.

“Sometimes he might not get many goals, but what if he gets many assists because already to people who are looking at this thing negatively they would say he’s only getting his first goal now.
“But already he has two assists and that should be positive for us. At least he’s moving towards the right direction, the adaptation process sometimes takes longer than anticipated.
“The other thing we tend to forget sometimes is that, he’s still a very young boy, he’s 22 years old. His growth and development hinges so much on how we push him, train him and make sure that we get to understand where finally he will help us… ”I think he can still do more. Obviously there is a lot more expected from him.”
