Bafana Bafana defender Rushwin Dortley has revealed how a collapsed move to Kaizer Chiefs three years ago never discouraged him from improving.
Dortley secured a move to Amakhosi at the beginning of the current Betway Premiership season.
The 22-year-old spent four seasons at Cape Town Spurs before his dream move to Chiefs. Dortley is currently with the Bafana Bafana side, which will take on South Sudan in an AFCON qualifier match on Tuesday.
Dortley has revealed that he was on the verge of joining Chiefs a few seasons ago but that move never materialised.
HOW RUSHWIN DORTLEY NEVER GAVE UP ON HIS DREAM DESPITE THE DELAY
“Chiefs wanted me two or three years ago. The deal didn’t happen,” he said. “It fell through at the last moment, but I still continued playing and doing what I had to do because at the end of the day, you are still contracted with the club.
“So you can’t stay away from training and do all of those things. The other club that actually wants you is also looking at that.
“So it’s just for you to stay professional, keep doing what you are doing and keep improving your game because you don’t know who is watching you. But like I said, for me I never question God. So what happens in my life is meant to happen,” added Dortley.

He added that the failed move to Chiefs three years ago ended up being a blessing in disguise “Say maybe if I had gone to Chiefs three years ago, I would have progressed like I am now. I am more mature and I have better insight into football and all those things. I think this was the best time for me to leave Cape Town Spurs after all those years.
“Sometimes I think stuff like that are out of your control [delay in breaking into professional football]. It’s for you to keep your head down and keep working.”
