Angolan international Inácio Miguel has opened up about the factors that influenced his decision to make the move to the Soweto giants.

Miguel joined Chiefs on a three-year contract last month, making history as the first player from his country to represent the Amakhosi senior team.

The 28-year-old is among Chiefs’ notable signings this season, alongside Njabulo Blom, Gaston Sirino, Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley, and Fiacre Ntwari. The club is eager to reclaim its former glory under the guidance of new coach Nasreddine Nabi, and these new additions are expected to play a crucial role in achieving that goal.

Chiefs’ trophy cabinet has remained untouched for the past nine years, a fact that Miguel acknowledges poses a significant challenge.

However, during a media briefing at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on a windy Wednesday morning, Miguel expressed his confidence in the club’s ambitious project, which was outlined to him by sporting director Kaizer Motuang Jr.

Furthermore, Miguel felt that a fresh start was necessary after achieving success with Petro in Angola. The move to Chiefs represented a new challenge and an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

WHAT LURED MIGUEL TO CHIEFS

“So basically it was the project that Kaizer [Motaung Jr] talked me about and make me understand and view that in future they want to achieve something big,” he said.

“I won everything at Petro de Luanda in the two years that I stayed at the club so I also felt that I needed a new challenge and what better club than Kaizer Chiefs, the sleeping giant, to start again something different and of course the project for the future made me move here.

“We cannot focus on the past because we will not do anything different, our focus has to be in the future, that’s what made me move here as I understand that the club wants to do something new.

“They [Chiefs] want to change, make something they did not make in the past years, that’s the biggest reason that I am here, to do something different, try to help my teammates do something different, that’s the main reason.”

Inácio Miguel is in line to take his Chiefs debut when the club opens their 2024/25 Betway Premiershp campaign with an away tie against Marumo Gallants in the Free State on Saturday, 14 September.
