Motsepe Foundation Championship club Cape Town Spurs are deep in negotiations with Stellenbosch FC regarding a potential transfer of striker Ashley Cupido.
The 23-year-old forward has been attracting significant interest from several teams, with Cape Town City reportedly among his admirers. However, it appears the towering former youth international is likely to join the Cape Winelands team.
Cupido, who has been part of the Urban Warriors setup since 2020, boasts an impressive record of nine goals and three assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. Last season, he emerged as Spurs’ top scorer with seven goals in the Betway Premiership, despite the team’s relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. The previous season, he clinched the Golden Boot award with a remarkable 15 goals in the first tier.
Sources indicate that discussions between Spurs and Stellenbosch are progressing well, though certain crucial details might still need to be ironed out before a deal can be finalised.

ASHLEY CUPIDO SEEN AS AN IDEAL SUCCESSOR TO IQRAAM RAYNERS
Stellenbosch sees Cupido as the ideal successor to Iqraam Rayners, who recently departed for Mamelodi Sundowns. The Cape Winelands team has also lost Deano Van Rooyen to Orlando Pirates and Antonio Van Wyk to Austrian club SV Ried.
Should the transfer materialize, Cupido would become the second player to leave Spurs during this window, following Rushwin Dortley’s move to Kaizer Chiefs a month ago.
Rayners joined Mamelodi Sundowns on a long-term contract after the defending Premiership champions triggered his buyout clause. Rayners was key for Stellies last season, weighing in with 15 goals.
The Steve Barker-coached side finished the season in third place last season and are taking part in the CAF Confederation Cup. They also won the inaugural Carling Knockout Cup. Stellies will be hoping for a much more improved season hence the push to reinforce their squad.
