Limpopo-born midfielder Sammy Seabi appears on the verge of leaving DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns in search of regular playing time.

Seabi, nicknamed ‘Vieira’, has been linked with a move away from the club for months due to limited appearances. According to an SN24 source, a decision on his future is expected soon, potentially leading to a transfer at the season’s end.

The 29-year-old midfielder returned to Mamelodi Sundowns after a loan spell with Sekhukhune United last season, where he impressed and even reached the Nedbank Cup Final. However, upon his return, he has only featured in two league games for Sundowns this season.

The fierce competition for central midfield positions at Sundowns plays a role in Seabi’s limited playing time. Players like Tebogo Mokoena, Marcelo Allende, Sphelele Mkhulise, Bathusi Aubaas, Bongani Zungu, Rivaldo Coetzee, and even Mothobi Mvala have made it difficult for him to break into the starting line-up.

Seabi’s struggles for playing time extend beyond this season. Since joining Sundowns from Polokwane City in 2019, he has consistently faced this challenge. While Sundowns might value his experience as a backup option, Seabi desires more opportunities to showcase his talent.

It remains to be seen if Sekhukhune United will rekindle their interest in Seabi during the upcoming July transfer window.

SAMMY SEABI CELEBRATED A MAJOR EVENT

Seabi, who impressed initially at Polokwane City, earned the attention of Sundowns and joined the club in 2019. Although securing a regular spot proved challenging in his first season, Seabi persevered. He gained loan experience at Moroka Swallows and Chippa United, and Sekhukhune United.

Demonstrating dedication beyond the field, Seabi recently graduated, a significant accomplishment he proudly shared on his Instagram account in February.
