Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson provided an update on the team’s injury status as they prepare to bounce back from a disappointing early exit from the cup competition.

Johnson confirmed his side will be without three players ahead of their Soweto derby clash with Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

Amakhosi return to action in the DStv Premiership after their shock Nedbank Cup first round exit against second tier outfit Milford FC.

They will be buoyed by the fact that they are unbeaten in five successive DStv Premiership encounters. Chiefs have won five and drew two.

Of course, they have struggled to hit the target, scoring just four goals. “It happens in football, and unfortunately for Kaizer Chiefs it happened to us this year,” Johnson acknowledged, reflecting on the team’s unexpected loss to a lower league side. He admitted the players were understandably dejected but emphasised the need to move forward quickly.

“The boys were not in a good space after the game,” Johnson revealed. “But we have to pick ourselves up because the next game is coming up soon, there’s no time to dwell on the disappointment.”

“Everybody is available except for Tebogo Potsane, who has a minor hernia injury,” he stated.

Johnson explained that George Matlou and TT (Thatayaone Ditlhokwe) are still recovering from surgeries and will be unavailable for selection. With redemption in mind, Johnson highlighted the team’s preparation for the crucial league game.

“We’ve prepared well,” he said, “the boys have taken the loss against Milford seriously, and we are focused on putting in a strong performance against Swallows at FNB Stadium.”
