Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has put a firm end to rumours linking him to a purchase of Moroka Swallows’ DStv Premiership status.
Kadodia denied any interest in buying Swallows PSL status insisting that Maritzburg plan to return to SA’s topflight by competing on the field of play.
Maritzburg was relegated to the second-tier league last season after failing in the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs. They had initially finished the 2022/23 season in 15th place.
Kadodia’s team is finding it difficult in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as they are sit in 11th place on the log standings at the halfway stage of the season.
Maritzburg are a worrying 10 points adrift of leaders Orbit College FC as the KZN side are on 20 points after 17 games with five wins, five draws and seven defeats. And with the team facing a mountain to climb in the second half of the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Kadodia denied rumours of Swallows.
Financial woes have engulfed Swallows, with reports surfacing of delayed salary payments to players This has led to the club failing to honour their last two fixtures of 2023 against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.

“We haven’t had any engagements or discussions about that. Swallows must sort out their own life,” said Farook Kadodia. “It’s mid-season now, it is quite difficult to get franchise right now to be fair to you.”
Maritzburg will have to win the Motsepe Foundation Championship in order to gain automate promotion back to the DStv Premiership or finish in second place and fight for a place in the Premier Division in the playoffs.
And due to the indifferent results in the league, Maritzurg have already shown head coach Zipho Dlangalala the exit door. They will return to league action after the AFCON break in a clash against Casric Stars away from home on 13 February.
