Mamelodi Sundowns have made their first move in the January transfer window, bolstering their defence with the signing of Zuko Mdunyelwa from Chippa United.
The 24-year-old right-back has been a rock at the back for the Chilli Boys since his arrival from Cape Town City in 2021, racking up 58 appearances and establishing himself as one of the league’s most consistent defenders.
Mdunyelwa attracted significant interest last season, reportedly agreeing a pre-contract with Stellenbosch FC. However, Chippa held onto their prized asset with a new contract. But their resistance proved temporary when Sundowns came calling.
Sundowns confirmed the signing in a statement, welcoming Mdunyelwa as “the first mid-season addition of the window” after completing medicals and agreeing to terms.
The arrival of Mdunyelwa adds depth and competition to Sundowns’ already formidable backline, where he will battle established stars like Khuliso Mudau, Tapelo Morena, and Grant Kekana for a starting spot in the second half of the season.
