Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana has reportedly attracted interest from Ligue 1 side Lorient.

Ngezana has been making waves in Romania since joining FCSB prior to the start of the 2023/24 season from Kaizer Chiefs.

However, he endured a difficult start to life in Romania’s topflight, Liga 1, as he had a horrible pre-season marked by poor displays. In addition, Ngezana had to wait for eight matches before making his official debut for FSBC.

The defender grabbed the opportunity with both hands and has flourished since capitalising on Vlad Chiricheș’s injury, showcasing his true potential.

And since cementing his place in the starting lineup, Ngezana has formed a dominant partnership with Joyskim Dawa, propelling FCSB to a commanding five-point lead at the summit of the Liga 1 log standings.

The 26-year-old has featured in 13 games for FCSB, and his impressive performances for the club have not gone unnoticed.

Siyabonga Ngezana’s rise has attracted renewed interest from FC Sheriff, who were keen on signing him before his move to FCSB. But now, French club Lorient have also entered the race, enquiring about his availability.

Sources close to the player confirmed the interest but disclosed that FCSB are seeking a significant transfer fee in the region of €6 million, which is approximately R123 million.

A transfer to Ligue would offer him the opportunity to compete at a higher level and test himself against some of the best players in Europe. The Amakhosi youth development graduate will also feature against some of the top sides such as Paris Saint-Germain  (PSG), Monaco and Marseille

Furthermore, should a deal materialise, Chiefs will reap a financial reward due to their foresight in securing a 10% sell-on clause during Ngezana’s transfer.
