Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has expressed his confidence in his team’s preparation for their upcoming clash against Polokwane City on Saturday. Kick off is 15h30 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Johnson highlighted the team’s determination and work ethic during their training sessions despite the challenges of playing in Polokwane’s heat.

“We’ve had a good week’s break since the Swallows game, including a friendly against a First Division team,” Johnson said. “It was a valuable exercise, but ensuring the players maintain their work ethic and desire to push further is always a challenge.

However, I haven’t seen such dedication and motivation in a team for a long time. They are doing exceptionally well at training, even the injured ones, which is commendable.”

He said preparing for Polokwane City “has been challenging for the technical team”. “We’ve had to hold the players back at times because their eagerness is overwhelming. We’re aware of the intense heat, so we’ve trained in Polokwane to acclimatise and implemented other measures to help them cope.”

“Our stats against Moroka Swallows in the heat were excellent,” Johnson emphasised. “We’re not worried about the conditions; our focus is on playing our game and performing at our best. We carry the name Kaizer Chiefs for a reason. Every team, regardless of their position in the league, views games against us as finals. We’re approaching every remaining league match with the same mindset.”

He went on to provide an injury update with Keagan Dolly, Ashley Du Preez and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe the three injured players.

“Keagan Dolly is still recovering from his injury against Orlando Pirates,” Johnson informed. “TT Ditlhokwe underwent shoulder surgery yesterday and is expected to be out for three months. We wish him a speedy recovery. Ashley du Preez is also sidelined for another week and a half to two weeks.”

He has a lot of respect for City’s Ndumiso Mabena, whom he coached at Platinum Stars. “He was a fantastic player then, and he’s still putting in impressive performances now thanks to his dedication. Additionally, young Oswin Appolis is also a talent to watch. They’re a strong team that enjoys attacking, especially at home in Polokwane. We’re aware of the challenge ahead, but we’re ready to face it.”

Overall, Coach Johnson’s positive attitude and detailed explanation of the team’s preparation suggest that Kaizer Chiefs are well-equipped for their encounter against Polokwane City.

Their focus on maintaining high standards, adapting to the heat, and respecting their opponents indicates a strong mental approach that could lead them to victory.
