Defender Azola Ntsabo’s time at Chippa United appears to be coming to an end. The 24-year-old, who joined the Chilli Boys from Cape Town All Stars in July 2022, is winding up his contract with the club.

The Ajax Cape Town prodigy signed a two-year deal with the Eastern Cape outfit and will be a free agent in June next year.

According to sources close to the situation, Ntsabo and the club have yet to strike common ground regarding a new contract. The defender has made 10 appearances for Chippa this season but has not trained in the last three weeks due to a medical condition.

The talented left-back will certainly not be short of offers in January should he not sign a contract extension. Ntsabo’s departure comes at a time when Chippa are looking to strengthen their squad in his position. During the pre-season, the Chilli Boys put out an advertisement in search of a left-back.

WHY AZOLA NTSABO COULD LEAVE CHIPPA UNITED?

They are in 11th position in the DStv Premiership table, just five points above the relegation zone.

A source within the club revealed that Ntsabo was not happy with the new deal the club was offering. “Azola is a talented young player who needs to take his game to the next level. He knows he will have a few other clubs interested in him. So it appears he’s not in a hurry to accept anything the club offers.”

Several clubs are believed to be interested in signing Ntsabo, including Cape Town Spurs and Sekhukhune United

Ntsabo is expected to leave Chippa United when his contract expires at the end of the season. His departure will leave a gap in the Chilli Boys’ defence, which has already conceded 10 goals in 10 league matches this season.
