Orlando Pirates are set to revive interest in AmaZulu defender Rian Hanamub ahead of the January transfer window.
The Buccaneers have a crisis with both their left backs out injured. Club captain Innocent Maela is recovering from corrective surgery, with Paseka Mako also ruled out for six months.
Deon Hotto has slotted in at left-back in the absence of Mako and Maela, but he needs to be stronger defensively.
Pirates’ technical team is reported to have identified the 28-year-old defender as a potential replacement. The Namibia international has been linked with an exit from Usuthu for some time.
The Buccaneers were looking to bring him on board in the recent transfer window despite the interest in the Brave Warrior from SupeSport United.
It has now emerged that the Jose Riveiro-coached side has reignited their interest in the defender with a view of adding him to their squad in January.
The left-back was one of AmaZulu’s key players last season, playing 27 league matches for the side as they avoided relegation.
WOULD AMAZULU RELEASE RIAN HANAMUB?
According to the sources close to the Orlando Pirates camp, the technical team has recommended the defender to head coach Riveiro, and the club is analysing the player.
“The technical team has recommended Hanamub, and now it’s up to Jose Riveiro to give them the green light. They will look to bring him in January.

“It won’t be easy because Pablo Franco Martin rates Hanamub highly and wants to keep him. Let’s wait and see what will happen in January,” the source concluded.
So far this season, Hanamub has featured in all 11 league games and has been the strong pillar in the AmaZulu defence.
SuperSport United are still keen to land the player’s signature. However, they will get stiff competition from the Soweto giants.
Hanamub has played in most PSL matches in the 2021/22 campaign for Chippa United, making 30 appearances across 30 fixtures. He has previously also played for Jomo Cosmos, among other clubs in his professional career.
