Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat was overcome with emotion as he delivered a heartfelt tribute to his former teammate and friend George Chigova at his funeral on Thursday.

Chigova, a former goalkeeper for Dynamos and the Zimbabwe national team, passed away unexpectedly at 32.

Billiat, who shared a close bond with George Chigova since childhood at Aces Youth Academy, travelled to Harare to pay his respects to his fallen friend. He was among the mourners who gathered at Rufaro Stadium to bid farewell to Chigova.

The former Zimbabwe Warriors ace, who was visibly struggling to hold back tears, recounted his fond memories of Chigova, describing him as a kind, gentle, and supportive friend who always had a smile on his face. He spoke of their shared passion for football and the many laughs they shared on and off the pitch.

“I just want to thank everyone for coming to support George today,” Billiat said to the crowd. “I don’t have many words, but I just want to say rest in peace, George. I never thought I would give a speech at George’s funeral… that I would bury George. Rest easy, George, and you must know we will love you until we meet again,” he added.
