Kaizer Chiefs left-back Happy Mashiane is eager to depart the club in January’s transfer window in pursuit of regular playing time. The 25-year-old defender has yet to feature in a single match this season, leaving him frustrated with his current situation.
Mashiane’s lack of opportunities has been attributed to the presence of experienced full-backs Edmilson Dove and Sifiso Hlanti, who have been preferred.
Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki never gave Mashiane a chance during his four-month tenure at the club. Interim coach Cavin Johnson has also not given him the nod.
This lack of playing time has reportedly left Mashiane seeking a fresh start elsewhere.
“Happy Mashiane is unhappy with his lack of game time at Kaizer Chiefs and has requested to leave the club in January,” a source said. “He is still young and ambitious, and he wants to be playing regularly. He feels that he has something to offer, but he is not getting the chance to show it at Kaizer Chiefs.”

Mashiane’s potential departure would add to the growing number of players expected to leave Kaizer Chiefs in the next two transfer windows. The club is reportedly looking to offload several fringe players to refresh their underperforming squad.

Mashiane’s exit would also mark the end of a journey that began at Kaizer Chiefs’ youth development academy. He progressed through the ranks and made his senior debut in 2019, but his opportunities have been limited since then.
With the January transfer window approaching, Mashiane is hopeful of securing a move to a club that can offer him regular playing time. He remains determined to prove his worth and establish himself as a reliable full-back in the Premier Soccer League.
At some point, Stellenbosch FC were said to be interested in his services. They could potentially be a club he could join. Moroka Swallows are also said to be eager to consider him if he is available.
