Although Kaizer Chiefs have been a pale shadow of themselves, club chairman Kaizer Motaung remains steadfast and confident that his son, Kaizer Motaung Jr, will help bring back the much-needed glory days.

The Soweto giants remain in the doldrums as they struggle to end their lengthy trophy drought.

At the moment, they are beset with finding a new coach after parting ways with Molefi Ntseki. Cavin Johnson is currently holding fort on an interim basis.

As they grapple with their perennial problems, Kaizer Sr has reaffirmed his unwavering support for his son, Kaizer Motaung Junior, the club’s sports director.

“I believe what he [Kaizer Jr] is saying makes sense. I have given my baton over to them to continue the journey,” he said.

“So, it’s a responsibility on their shoulders now, and of course, I can only look on from the sides.

“Look on and support them in any or whatever way I can. I will keep their initiatives to ensure this brand continues to grow in leaps and bounds.

He added: “I can only say to the fans, ‘Thank you very much for the support over the years and continue supporting the team you have so much love for.

“A little bit of patience will be a great deal of help. We’re in a rebuilding stage at the moment.

“And we want to continue the journey, ensuring it’s successful so we can become strong. But we also rely on their strength and thank them for that.”

Hopes are high that Amakhosi will change their fortunes after the international break when they face Moroka Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

They are in 10th position on the DStv Premiership log standings, with 14 points in 12 games.
