Former Orlando Pirates anchorman Marshall Munetsi has warned the Warriors of Zimbabwe about Rwanda who they face in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Both sides are in Group C, together with Bafana Bafana, Nigeria, Lesotho and Benin. Zimbabwe and Rwanda kick start the qualifiers on Wednesday afternoon at the Huye Stadium in Rwanda.

And Munetsi who has been selected to be one of the team captains is skeptical ahead of the country’s first match on return to the international arena.

Munetsi is currently in the books of French Ligue 1 side Stade Reims.

“It’s a tough one tomorrow, playing the hosts Rwanda but I’m sure everybody is prepared.

“Rwanda is a team that we don’t really know much about so it’s up to us to make sure that we are on top of our game.

“They [Rwanda] are playing at home so we have to start as strong as possible to make sure they don’t feel comfortable at home,” he said.

Zimbabwe last played a competitive match at the Africa Cup of Nations finals that were staged in Cameroon.

They beat Guinea 2-1 on 18 January 2022 in the group phase of the prestigious continental tournament.

That was their last match before enduring a 18-month-long FIFA suspension which was lifted at the start of July.

This time, they are under former Jose Mourinho assistant Baltermar Brito who is the interim coach.

Meanwhile, the Warriors will stay behind in Rwanda where they will play hosts to Nigeria on the 19th of November at the same venue.
