Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane reckons their African Football League [AFL] success set a perfect stage for them to win the lucrative CAF Champions League title.

The Tshwane giants won the AFL title on Sunday after beating Wydad Casablanca 3-2 on aggregate after the two legged final.

Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Sundowns levelled the aggregate score in stoppage time of the first half through Peter Shalulile.

Modiba scored the second in the 53rd minute with a stylish chip over the goalkeeper.

Rightfully, they pocketed a staggering US$4 million [R74 million], and the revered skipper says their eyes are on the CAF Champions League.

And what gives him confidence is the fact they are likely to meet the same opponents as the CAF Champions League heats up.

“This trophy is a big boost for us especially in the champions league. Actually, the standard is the same, because we will meet the same teams in the CAF.

“So now, we know that we just need to step up and maintain our level when we resume the Champions League,” Themba Zwane said.
