Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena is not worried and has welcomed the responsibility of being involved in taxing fixtures inside a crammed local and continental schedule.

In a punishing 14-day fixture schedule, Masandawana have had to deal with giants, Al Ahly in the African Football League semi-finals on the 29th of October and 1 November respectively.

They beat the Egyptian Premier League giants 1-0 over the two legs. Three days after they eliminated Al Ahly, they faced Wydad Athletic Club who beat them 2-1 in first leg of the African Football League final.

From the defeat, the serial DStv Premiership champions are due to face Durban-based AmaZulu on Wednesday 8 November.

RULANI MOKWENA NOT LETTING HIS GUARD DOWN

He however is not letting his guard down, as he hopes to cope and turn tables when they meet the Moroccan giants in the reverse fixture.”Every modern player has to get used to playing every two or three days. But the only challenge particularly when it comes to continental football is travelling.

“The number of hours you spend in transit from country to country, particularly when you consider that the majority of the teams in the top eight of Africa are either from Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt and then from South Africa to travel to those countries is extremely expensive.

“And it’s a big contribution but we don’t have to complain about it. We teach our modern players to be always ready.

“We have to find mechanisms to cope with it, not just with regards to injuries but on recovery and preparation for the next match,” Mokwena said.
