Venda Football Club have moved swiftly to appoint the replacement of Joel Masutha, who recently left his position as the club’s head coach.

The Motsepe Foundation Championship side has been without a coach for a while now after parting company with Masutha last month.

Venda FC have appointed Duncan Lechesa as their new head coach. He was in the books of DStv Premiership side Polokwane City as co-coach with Lehlohonolo Seema this season.

With Venda Football Club in need of new guidance since the departure of Masutha, Lechesa has been called in to take over from caretaker coach Johnny Ferreira.

Lechesa left Polokwane City recently after disagreeing on issues at the club. He was also linked with the Baroka job. However, Bakgaga ba ga Mphahlele eventually appointed Dan Malesela their head coach.

“I am looking forward to working for the team. The team shareholders and management are ambitious and supportive. They are very clear about what they want. I have enough experience within the NFD after promoting Polokwane City twice, and I don’t see why I can’t do the same with VFC,” said Lechesa.

DUNCAN LECHESA’S TASK AT VENDA FC

Lechesa and Phuthi Mohafe, as co-coaches, led City to the top-flight promotion, finishing on top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.

However, at the beginning of the current campaign, the club roped in Seema, who seems to be calling the tune on the Polokwane City bench.

The Limpopo-based outfit needs help in the bottom half with six defeats and three wins from the opening 11 games played in the second tier.

In the Motsepe Foundation Championship matches on the weekend, VFC beat Magesi FC 2-0 in the Limpopo derby.

While Malesela and his Baroka team claimed a 2-0 victory against Hungry Lions, Maritzburg United beat Orbit College FC 3-1 at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Vhembe-based outfit will face inconsistent Black Leopards on the 11th of November at Thohoyandou Stadium as Lechesa eyes a perfect start to his team.
