Cape Town Spurs are determined to spark a change in fortunes, starting with their Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 clash against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Friday.
CT Spurs have had a difficult start to the new season, suffering defeat in all of their opening eight DStv Premiership matches.
They are the only side without a point so far this season.
The dismal start has seen the club, formerly known as Ajax Cape Town, fire Shaun Bartlett while appointing Vasilis Manousakis as the assistant coach, with technical director Sean Connor taking over temporarily as head coach.
However, CT Spurs assistant Manousakis is confident that they can turn things around.
A win against Pirates in the newly formed Carling Knockout Cup would be a major boost for CT Spurs.
The club made a return to SA’s top flight this season after winning the PSL relegation/promotional playoffs following a few seasons in the second-tier league.

“We are working very hard knowing very well our situation (poor results in the league),” said Manousakis as CT Spurs hope to use the Carling Knockout as to change their season around.
“The important thing is to make sure that we get things right in the league and also to do well in cup competitions.

“We know the kind of game we will be facing against Pirates, especially at their home. So, we are just going out there to make sure that we give our best.”
The Pirates clash will be Connor and Manousakis’ second in charge of Cape Town Spurs as they lost their first match 2-1 against SuperSport United in the Premiership.
And a win against a team of Pirates’ calibre with an impressive cup competition record under coach Jose Riveiro seems unlikely.
