Al Wahda Football Club, the UAE Pro League side coached by South African Pitso Mosimane, has undergone a significant overhaul.
The club has announced a change to its board of directors. In a statement released on Saturday, the club president, Sheikh Theyab Zayed Al Nahyan, said Fares Maktoum Al Mazroui had been appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors. In contrast, Ahmed Awahd Al Otaiba had been appointed as Vice Chairman.
Abdullah Salem Al Junaibi takes over as the club’s CEO. The statement also said that the new board of directors is committed to providing Mosimane with the support he needs to achieve success with the club.
Mosimane joined Al Wahda in June 2023 after leaving Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli. He has won five CAF Champions League titles with three different clubs and is considered one of the most successful coaches in African football history.
WILL AL WAHDA’S MAJOR OVERHAUL HAVE AN EFFECT ON PITSO MOSIMANE?
Al Wahda finished third in the UAE Pro League last season and just missed out on qualification for the Asian Champions League. The club hopes Mosimane can lead them to their first league title since 2009/10.
The change to the board of directors at Al Wahda is an exciting development, especially since Mosimane joined the club just a few months ago.

It is unclear why the change has been made, but the new board of directors may be looking to make a clean break from the past and start a new chapter with Mosimane at the helm.
It is also possible that the new board of directors is simply looking to bring in new ideas and expertise. Whatever the reason for the change, it will be interesting to see how it affects Mosimane and the team.
Mosimane has a proven track record of success, and he hopes to lead Al Wahda to trophies this season. The new board of directors has pledged to support him in every way possible, so it will be up to Mosimane to deliver.
Al Wahda are currently 10th on the table after five games, having won two and lost three. They play Al Ittihad Kalba in their next game.
