Royal AM head coach John Maduka has addressed the unexpected inclusion of club chairman Andile Mpisane in the matchday squad for the clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

Andile Mpisane was an unused subsitute as Royal AM held Chiefs to a goalless draw in a DStv Premiership clash on Saturday night at FNB Stadium in Soweto.

John Maduka made it clear that Royal AM club chairman Mpisane is not only the chairman, but also a member of the playing squad.

With Royal AM under a FIFA transfer ban, Maduka has been integrating young players into the team with Mpisane, who plays captains the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side also seemingly in the plans of Maduka.

As a result of the draw away to Amakhosi, Maduka’s men are now unbeaten in three games and sit in fifth place in the league with eight points from six matches.

MADUKA SAYS MPISANE IS PART OF ROYAL AM’S PLAYING SQUAD

“He (Mpisane) works, he finishes the training sessions. Obviously whenever we do conditioning sessions, he’s not a player that pulls out,” said Maduka after the Chiefs clash.

“He might look the way he looks but whenever we do training sessions he does finish them. The conditioning part is very tough but he does manage to finish.

“Last time we used him in a friendly against AmaZulu, he played over 70/75 minutes, where he never looked flat or tired. He is still part of the team,” added the Royal AM tactician.

Royal AM return to action on Wednesday at home against Sekhukhune United in the league.
