A former Orlando Pirates gunslinger has decided against training with DStv Premiership side Polokwane City, SN24 can reveal.

Ndumiso Mabena was cast into the wilderness by Orlando Pirates at the end of last season after a six-month spell.

In truth, the 36-year-old never got to fight for his place in the team in his second stint at the Buccaneers.

And it has emerged that his latest attempt to find a new home in the PSL has hit a snag.

Mabena caught the interest of a DStv Premiership returnee, Polokwane City, who needed to inject experience into their team.

Mabena initially trained with Polokwane City in July before stopping after failing to strike a deal with the club.

He returned to Rise and Shine three weeks ago, hoping to put pen to paper.

Sadly, he has left again since nothing has been presented to him, with three weeks remaining before the transfer window closes.

WHY NDUMISO MABENA TURNED HIS BACK ON POLOKWANE CITY

A source close to Mabena told SN24 that he could not keep training with Rise and Shine since there are no contract prospects, as he also avoided getting injured.

“He decided to stop training because the club was taking too long to finalise a contract for him. He probably got the sense that the chairman was second-guessing him. His biggest concern was that he would get injured while training for a long time, and there’s no decision,” the source said.

According to Transfermkt, the well-travelled forward has 249 PSL appearances, where he scored 52 goals and provided 31 assists.

The technical team had hoped to add a bit of experience upfront as they look to maintain their PSL status.

Meanwhile, the Limpopo-based outfit completed the signing of Manuel Kambala, who had been training with them for several weeks.

The 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship winners hope to reinvent their campaign, having started on a low note.
