Guinea international Yakhouba Gnagna Barry’s deal with DStv Premiership outfit AmaZulu FC has collapsed, and SN24 can explain why.
The Horoya FC forward failed a second set of medical tests at the Durban side. According to a source, it concerns a knee injury. He has already flown back to Guinea.
Horoya president Antonio Souare and Barry arrived in South Africa last week. They were to conclude a three-year deal with the KZN side subject to a medical check-up.
The 25-year-old caught the attention of AmaZulu when they played with Horoya. This was in the CAF Champions League during 2021/22 under Benni McCarthy.

AmaZulu will return to the transfer market to look for a replacement as soon as possible. With Ivorian centre forward Sede Junior Dion out for three months, Bongi Ntuli, Victor Letsoalo and Augustine Chidi Kwem misfiring, Usuthu are keen to add further firepower to their attack.
Dion has missed all five league matches played by the club so far due to an injury. The Ivorian arrived at AmaZulu FC from Marumo Gallants in the second half of last season. He suffered a dislocated shoulder during the pre-season, having scored two goals in the final of the KZN Premier Cup.
Despite arriving in the second half of the season, the 29-year-old was the club’s top goal scorer last term. He scored five league goals in 12 appearances.
Yakhouba Gnagna Barry contract with Horoya will run out on June 30, 2024. The club retained the forward, who has been linked with moves to Esperance and Wydad in recent times.
Barry was Guinea’s Ligue 1 Pro’s top goal scorer last campaign and has 17 senior national team caps with three goals.
The Sandile Zungu-owned club is sitting 14th in the DStv Premiership log standings with six points after five games, winning only one game despite having some of the best players in the squad.
The club will be next in action when they take on Cape Town City on the 17th of September at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Kick-off 17h30.
