Gift Motupa has not trained with Mamelodi Sundowns’ senior team in recent weeks and is not in the club’s plans for the season.

The 28-year-old forward has been linked with a move away from Chloorkop, with reports suggesting that he has requested to leave the club.

Motupa has been under the tutelage of Godfrey Sapula as he trains with the club’s M Tigers team.

M Tigers, Sundowns’ feeder team in the ABC Motsepe League, is currently hosting players who are awaiting loan deals. They are training with the side to stay in shape.

WHAT RULANI MOKWENA SAID ABOUT GIFT MOTUPA

Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena refused to discuss the 28-year-old forward’s whereabouts, citing ongoing club business.

“That’s with the club, the club is managing that,” Mokwena told journalists in Polokwane.

“You know, sometimes I’m asked about certain things, and I gave my opinion because my opinion is important at the club.
“But I’m also just an employee of the club. So we’ll hear what the club says. They’ll give us directive on the way forward.”

Motupa has struggled to establish himself at Sundowns since joining the club in 2020. With the likes of Peter Shalulile, Abubeker Nassir, and Lucas Ribeiro all ahead of him in the pecking order, it is clear that he is not in the plans of the club.

Motupa’s situation at Mamelodi Sundowns is a sign that the club is looking to make changes to their attacking lineup ahead of the new season.

The club signed Brazilian striker Ribeiro in the summer, and the skillful forward has already scored four goals this season.

With Shalulile and Nassir also set to return soon, Motupa will find it increasingly difficult to get into the team.
