Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has rejected Hugo Broos’ claim that no Amakhosi player deserves to be in the national team.

Broos on Wednesday announced his final 23-man squad for the international friendly matches against Namibia and DR Congo next month.

Bafana will play Namibia on September 9 before tackling DR Congo three days later. Both matches are set to be hosted at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

In the preliminary squad, Broos had initially included four Kaizer Chiefs players: Sifiso Hlanti, Pule Mmodi, Brandon Petersen and Given Msimango.

However, all of them were dropped, with Broos stating that no Chiefs player deserved to wear the Bafana jersey He insisted that Chiefs needs to improve.

“Last Saturday, I was at the Chiefs game [versus AmaZulu]. I’m very sorry. But now, at the moment, there is no player who deserves to be in Bafana Bafana,” said Broos after announcing his final squad on Wednesday afternoon in Johannesburg.

In his response, which came a few hours after Hugo Broos’ comments on Chiefs players, Ntseki said: “It’s a decision by the national team coach. We can’t question him because we don’t know what he is looking for in a player.”

Ntseki was addressing the media at Athlone Stadium following Amakhosi’s 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC in the DStv Premiership clash.

Broos’ decision not to select any Chiefs players for the national team is not new. He did the same thing in June this year when Bafana Bafana played Morocco in the AFCON qualifiers.

“He [Broos] has never given us a template to say for one to be in a national team; these are the requirements,” added Ntseki, who is a former Bafana coach.

“So if ever he doesn’t feel like we deserve to have players in the national team, it’s just unfortunate. But we are very motivated because we have to work hard and show everybody and ourselves that we have the quality in the team.”
