Gift Motupa headed for Sundowns exit

Home » Gift Motupa headed for Sundowns exit

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Gift Motupa looks headed for the exit door and could leave the club before the end of the transfer window.

Motupa is in talks with management of the Brazilians over the possibility of going out on loan or leaving permanently.

It has since been established that the two parties are still in discussions over the future of the former Baroka FC and Orlando Pirates player.

The Limpopo-born striker is struggling to break into the team at the defending League champions and SN24 has been informed that AmaZulu, Polokwane City and SuperSport United are interested in bringing him on board.

The player is understood to be open to going out to get game time due to the tough competition up front.

Motupa has been unable to break into the Sundowns starting lineup under coach Rhulani Mokwena this season.

WHY GIFT MOTUPA EXIT IS LOOMING AT SUNDOWNS?

Motupa’s exclusion from Sundowns’ 20-man matchday squad is reportedly causing him increasing frustration.

He made just seven appearances in 2022/23 campaign and all of them came off the bench. Overall, he has made just 22 appearances for the club scoring three league goals while setting up three more. He won three league titles, one Nedbank Cup and one MTN8 trophy at Chloorkop.

The 28-year-old joined Mamelodi Sundowns in September 2020 from the now defunct Bidvest Wits. He signed a three-year contract with an option to renew the contract by two years. Sundowns have opted to exercise their option to extend Motupa contract which expires in June 2025.

Despite a reported fallout with management, Motupa’s option was activated in the final days before the June deadline.

Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena’s axe has fallen on Andile Jali, Grant Margerman, Bradley Ralani, Lesedi Kapinga, and Lyle Lakay. Jali, Margerman, and Kapinga have already found new clubs, while Ralani is still searching.

Ralani is yet to be linked with any club in the PSL. Meanwhile Sundowns have also extended the contract of the versatile Khuliso Mudau.
