Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Aubrey Modiba has warned his teammates of the threat posed by their DStv Premiership opponents on Wednesday, Polokwane City. Sundowns will travel to Peter Mokaba Stadium to face off against an unpredictable Polokwane side.

Rise and Shine have currently moved to fifth place on the DStv Premiership log after winning two matches out of four. However, they are nine points behind the PSL defending champions, who have won five matches in a row.

Sundowns are the only team yet to drop points in the DStv Premiership this season, and would want to continue that way as they look to defend their league title. If they win it again this season, they would have extended to seven successive PSL titles.

However, Modiba is convinced there are players in the Polokwane City side that cannot be taken lightly.

WHICH PLAYERS POSE A THREAT FOR MAMELODI SUNDOWNS?

“They have good players, [Oswin] Appollis. He scored two goals against Cape Town Spurs during the game that they won. The big striker Douglas Mapfumo, he is their target man and can hold the ball well,” said Aubrey Modiba.

“He scored in their previous game. So we know a few of them, and I think we will do a preview and analyse their weaknesses and strengths. But they have a good team.”

The talented Modiba, who has been playing a more advanced role this season, knows how difficult it will be to play in front of the home side’s fans.

“We’re expecting a tough match because every game is tough. They have done well because they are number five on the log, so it shows that they are doing something good.

“We are expecting a difficult game, but we have players who can be able to put in a good performance on the day so that we can be able to collect the points. They are playing in their backyard, and their supporters will be cheering for them, but I think we are ready for the game, and we will be able to do well.”

Kick-off for the clash is at 17:00.
