Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has hailed the performance of African countries including South Africa at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Banyana, Morocco and Nigeria have punched above their weight at the World Cup, reaching the knockout stages with the exception of Zambia, who were knocked out in the group stages. On the brighter note, Zambia registered their maiden World Cup following a win over Costa Rica.

Nigeria set the tone by becoming the first African nation to book their spot in the Last 16. The Super Falcons managed to get five points from Group B.Banyana followed with an impressive victory against Italy to seal second place in Group G. 

Meanwhile, Morocco also went through in Group H after finishing in second plade. They progressed at the expense of two-time world champions Germany.

With the Last 16 fixtures coming up, Patrice Motsepe has sent a message of support to the three nations, representing the African continent with pride.

MOTSEPE’S MESSAGE TO BANYANA AND CO.

“CAF and the 54 African Nations that are members of CAF congratulates the Women’s Teams of Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa for their historic and well-deserved qualification to the Round of 16 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023,” said Motsepe.

“The Super Falcons, the Atlas Lionesses and Banyana Banyana have made the people of Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa, as well as the people of the rest of the African Continent; very proud with their outstanding performances and hard-earned victories at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.”

Banyana will tackle the Netherlands on Sunday in their Last 16 clash, looking to continue their fairytale run in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will take on England in the round of 16 on Monday, looking to cause an upset, while Morocco will face France on Tuesday with the mission to book a place in the quarterfinals.
