The Premier Soccer League [PSL] has announced the quarterfinals fixtures for the 2022/23 MTN8 competition. The quarterfinals will be played on the weekend of 12 and 13 August.

The first match will see Mamelodi Sundowns take on Moroka Swallows at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 12 August at 3pm. This will be followed by a clash between Sekhukhune and Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on the same day at 6pm.

MTN8 QUARTERFINALS: SINGLE-LEG KNOCKOUT MATCHES

On Sunday, 13 August, Cape Town City will host Kaizer Chiefs at the Athlone Stadium in the early kick-off at 15h00. SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC will wrap up the quarterfinals at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium at 18h00.

The quarterfinals are single-leg knockout matches, with the winners progressing to the semifinals. The semifinals will be played in a few weeks’ time.

MTN8 tournament

The MTN8 is a knockout competition featuring the top eight teams from the previous season’s DStv Premiership. The winner of the MTN8 will pocket R10 million, while the runners-up will receive R5 million.

TOUGH TEST 

The quarterfinals are sure to be exciting, with all four matches featuring teams that are capable of winning the competition. Pirates are the defending champions, but they will face a tough test against Babina Noko in a repeat of last year’s Nedbank Cup. Cape Town City and Chiefs are two of the most unpredictable teams in the PSL, and they are sure to serve up a thrilling encounter. 

Stellenbosch FC will be looking to cause an upset against SuperSport, while Mamelodi Sundowns will be looking to start off the season on a high note by dislodging The Birds.

The quarterfinals are sure to be a great advert for South African football, and it is sure to be a thrilling few weeks of action.
