Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of winger Kgaogelo Sekgota just three days before the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season roars to life.
The 26-year-old has been with the Soweto giants since 2021 but has struggled to make an impact in recent seasons.
Sekgota made 27 appearances for Chiefs in the 2022/23 season but only scored two goals. He was also limited to just 11 starts in the league.
KAIZER CHIEFS CONFIRM KGAOGELO SEKGOTA DEPARTURE
The club announced Sekgota’s departure on their official website on Tuesday. They said that he had been released by mutual consent.
“Winger, Kgaogelo Sekgota has departed Kaizer Chiefs after spending two years with the Club,” the club said in a statement.
“Sekgota arrived at Amakhosi from Swallows FC ahead of the 2021/22 season, and featured 48 times (14 starts + 34 subs) in the gold & black colours of the Glamour Boys.
“His new Club will make an announcement in due course after finalising all the paperwork pertaining to his registration.
“We thank KG for all his efforts and wish him well for the rest of his footballing career.”
Sekgota is the latest player to leave Chiefs this summer. The club has also released Cole Alexander, Phathutshedzo Nange and Eric Mathoho. Khama Billiat also did not renew his contract with the club.
Chiefs have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing seven new players. They have brought in Given Msimango, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Edson Castillo, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Tebogo Potsane, Pule Mmodi, and Ranga Chivaviro.
The club hopes their new signings can help them end their trophyless drought in the 2023/24 season.

SEKGOTA’S NEXT MOVE
Sekgota is now a free agent, free to join any club. He has been linked with a move to Stellenbosch FC, who looks set to be his next home.
The winger is a talented player, and he will be hoping to find a club where he can get regular playing time. He will also be hoping to rediscover his goalscoring form.
Sekgota’s departure is a blow to Chiefs, but they have a number of talented wingers in their squad. They will be hoping that their new signings can fill the void left by Sekgota.
