Sekhukhune United have added a Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Siphesihle Mkhize, to their ranks ahead of the new season. 

The midfielder is Sekhukhune’s seventh new arrival as the club continues to strengthen their squad.

Babina Noko will compete in five competitions in the upcoming season, including the CAF Confederation Cup. The club qualified to play in the Confed Cup after reaching the 2023 Nedbank Cup final. They lost to Orlando Pirates.

On Wednesday, the club announced the signing of Mkhize from Sundowns. The midfielder joins Sekhukhune on a three-year deal. 

Sekhukhune have also brought in Jamie Webber, Tshepo Rikhotso, Tiklas Thutlwa, Renaldo Learner, Kgothatso Mariba and Thabang Mnyembane.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Siphesihle Elwin Mkhize from Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the 2023/24 DSTV Premiership season on a three-year deal,” reads the club statement. 

“Born in Umlazi, KwaZulu Natal on the 5th of February 1999, Mkhize (24) started his football career with Mamelodi Sundown’s Academy in 2013. He was promoted to the senior team in 2019 but was often loaned out to gain experience.

“After spending the 2019/20 season at Ajax Cape Town FC on loan, the defensive midfielder was then loaned to Chippa United, where he spent the last two seasons, amassing 33 league starts during that period. 

“Siphe, as he is affectionately known, has represented the National Under 20 in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations held in Niger and the U20 World Cup in Poland. He was also part of the Cosafa squad in 2020. 

“Mkhize revealed that he is looking forward to the exciting new season. He promised the “Babina Noko” fans that he will do his best to ensure the club stays where it belongs.
