Soweto giants Orlando Pirates have further bolstered their squad for the 2023/2024 campaign with the signing of Lesedi Kapinga.

The highly-rated midfielder joins a long list of stars ticked off the Pirates’ shopping list and becomes the club’s fifth acquisition of this transfer window.

Kapinga parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of 2022/23 PSL season following his struggles to break into the star-studded side. 

He had joined Masandawana at the start of the 2020/21 season from Black Leopards. Kapinga spent three seasons with the Tshwane giants, making 39 appearances in all competitions.

The attacker scored four goals while contributing seven assists. In addition, He won three league titles and the Nedbank Cup at Sundowns 

Amongst many factors that limited Kapinga’s game time at Sundowns were injuries and tough competition for a place on the starting line-up.

The Bafana Bafana international was competing with Themba Zwane, Neo Maema, Caston Sirino, Marcelo Allende, Sphelele Mkhulise and Cassius Mailula for a place in the starting line-up.

LESEDI KAPINGA JOINS ORLANDO PIRATES ON A THREE-YEAR DEAL

With the domestic league set to kick off on the fourth of August. Kapinga siged a three-year deal with Pirates. 

“Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Lesedi Kapinga ahead of the 2023/24 season,” the club confirmed.

“The 28-year-old attacking midfielder, who recently played for Bafana Bafana in the COSAFA Cup, has put pen to paper on a three-year deal.”

Meanwhile, Kapinga expressed his excitement about joining Pirates as he will be looking to get back to playing regular football.

“I am pleased to join the Club, I’m not much of a talker because talk is cheap,” he said. 

“I’m focused on is to start training and working my way back to playing the game I love,” said Kapinga.

Kapinga is added to the list of newcomers, which includes Katlego Otladisa, Melusi Buthelezi, Siphelo Baloni and Patrick Maswanganyi.
