SuperSport United have acquired the services of Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro on a season-long loan deal from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The transfer, announced on Thursday evening by SuperSport, ends weeks of speculation about Ighodaro’s future.

He moves to SuperSport after enjoying a good loan stint at Chippa United last season.

Ighodaro’s transfer is the third deal between the two Tshwane sides, Sundowns and SuperSport in the current 

Thapelo Maseko sealed a move to Sundowns earlier this week, while Grant Margeman penned a permanent deal with SuperSport,

The Nigerian striker netted 11 goals and provided two assists in his debut top-flight campaign at Chippa.

It was said that he would be returning to Sundowns for the new season. And with Cassius Mailula set to leave Sundowns for Toronto in the MLS, the DStv Premiership champions were expected to remain Ighodaro. However, it seems the forwar is not part of coach Rulani Mokwena’s plans.

Ighodaro joined Sundowns back in 2021 from Abuga College in Nigeria, and he is yet to feature for the Tshwane giants. He also had a loan stint at AmaTuks in the second-tier league.

SUPERSPORT UNITED CONFIRMS ARRIVAL OF IGHODARO

“Matsatsantsa would like to confirm the signature of 22-year-old Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro on a one-year loan from Mamelodi Sundowns,” said SuperSport in a statement.

“We are excited to have you in the Matsatsantsa family, Eto” The latter will likely play a big role as SuperSport returns to the CAF Confederation Cup

Ighodaro expressed his delight at joining SuperSport. “I’m excited. Looking forward to working with the players and technical team as well,” he said. 

“Expect hard work from me and some goals because I have a good team that can support and assist me.”

The striker has already started training with SuperSport in Durban as the club prepares for what promises to be a busy season.
