Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder turned coach David Mathebula has said that he has developed significantly as a coach under the newly appointed head coach of the Amakhosi senior team, Molefi Ntseki.

Mathebula, a Chiefs legend, who won Premiership titles under the late Ted Dumitru, said that his return to the Soweto giants as a coach has been made easy by Ntseki.

He said that he has grown on the technical bench since rejoining the club back in August 2022 as head coach of Amakhosi’s Under-19 youth team as well as assistant coach to the Reserve side.

“I think 80% of my work is something which I’ve learnt at Kaizer Chiefs as a coach,” said Mathebula, as quoted by SABC Sport

“I’ve been coaching everywhere, but there were no people who were leading in those projects, so I had to bring my skill and then no one to reflect what I’m doing.

“But with coach Ntseki around, I think I’ve developed a lot as a coach. From how you prepare the game, how you analyse a player, how you prepare for a session and how you prepare for the season as well.

“I think coming to join Kaizer Chiefs was very good for me, and I think I will develop further to become one of the best coaches,” added Mathebula.

Mathebula is a youth coach at chiefs

Ntseki has more than 20 years of coaching experience in SA football. He has coached Bafana Bafana and went to U17 (2015) and U20 FIFA World Cups (2009), as well as the Olympic Games (2016).

He also coached the junior national teams and several coaching badges such as the CAF A, B and C Licenses.

David Mathebula went on to state that the experience of the former national team youth coach mentor should not be doubted.

“He’s got so much experience, and when we have football conversations, I think you feel that you think you know a lot about developing players but only to find out that you’ve got so much more that you can learn, more especially from him,” Mathebula added.

“He’s been to the World Cup, promoted a lot of players, developed a lot of players, and that’s the kind of person that you want around you so that you can get as much information as you can. More especially at this time of my career as a coach as a young coach. I’m privileged to have him around.”
