Venda Football Club [VFC] are in pole position to sign a veteran defender as they strengthen their defence ahead of the 2023/24 season.
The renamed VFC have continued to bolster their squad as they look to fight for promotion into the South African top flight next season.
It has been confirmed to SN24 by a source close to the club that VFC is close to signing Isaac Masia for the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.
The former Black Leopards stalwart will likely move to Limpopo from University of Pretoria.
Masia joined the University of Pretoria on a short-term deal after a brief stint with Maritzburg United, where he struggled for regular game time.
He will be looking to revive his career under the tutelage of Joel Masutha, whom he previously worked with at Leopards.
The 28-year-old could join the likes of Nicholas Motloung, Katlego Ramonyai, Humphrey Khoza and Mphakamiseni Nene in defence for Masutha’s side.

“He could be a VFC player by the end of this weekend. The club would have made a very exciting signing to add to our fantastic defence force. Masia will bring a wealth of experience to our youthful squad, and his leadership will most certainly value to the club. He will be announced as a Venda Football Club player soon,” said the source.
VFC AQUIRES FORMER BLACK LEOPARDS GOALKEEPER
Meanwhile, VFC recently added former Black Leopards goalkeeper Rotshidzwa Muleka to their 2023/24 season roster.
The club head coach Masutha will be hoping that the new campaign will bring fruitful results as they are in the process of rebuilding the team.
Last season the club finished in position 12 in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 38 points. This was a disappointing campaign after the side finished 2021/22 in position four and came close to securing a promotional spot in their first season.
The upcoming season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship will be the third one for the Vhembe region club since purchasing the status of Cape Umoya United in 2021.
The Limpopo-based outfit will announce its recruits in the next couple of days.
