Kaizer Chiefs are said to have offered Sifiso Hlanti a new contract to remain at the club. But the deal entails new drastic terms.

The former Bafana Bafana international Hlanti joined Chiefs in 2021 from Swallows FC and proved to be coach Arthur Zwane’s trusted soldier in defence.

In the just-ended season, Hlanti featured in 30 games in all competitions, scoring two goals.

However, the defender’s contract at Amakhosi is set to expire in three days on 30 June and the club is keen to extend Hlanti’s stay by one year.

For the experienced left-back to remain at Naturena for the upcoming season, he has to accept a salary cut, as per Sowetean. Hlanti, who is 33 is one of the highest-paid players at Chiefs.

SIFISO HLANTI TO STAY AT CHIEFS

And with no club coming running to enquiry about Hlanti’s availability, it is said that the player is contemplating a lower pay to remain with Chiefs.

He is one of the seasoned campaigners who will be out of contract in a few days. Khama Billiat and Itumeleng Khune will also see their current deals at Chiefs expire.

It has been reported that Khune has already penned a contract extension with the club. Chiefs are yet to make a decision on Billiat’s future.

However, the trio, Hlanti, Khune and Billiat were spotted at Naturena with the rest of the squad as the Amakosi players went for fitness tests last week.

It is widely known that clubs only conduct fitness tests on players who are slated to be part of the team’s roster for the upcoming season.

The club has already started preparations for the new season. Chiefs have signed and released several players. Phathutshedzo Nange, Eric Mathoho and Siyabonga Ngezana have parted ways with the club.

On the other hand, Chiefs have signed  Thatayaone Ditlhokwe from NBC SuperSport United,  Mduduzi Mdantsane of Cape Town City and Given Msimango from TS Galaxy.
