Ranga Chivaviro has revealed that he is South African and eligible to play for Bafana Bafana as Kaizer Chiefs move closer to signing the much sought after big striker.
The red hot Marumo Gallants hitman made the revelation on Metro FM in an interview with Sports Amplified host Andile Ncube last night.
“Abantu mebezwa igama lami (When people hear my name) they do not believe that I am South African, I am used to it. My father is Zimbabwean, and my mother is South African. I was born in Limpopo in Ga-Kgapane,” said Chivaviro.
The 30-year-old’s next destination has been one of the most talked about stories this off-season following his stellar performance for Gallants in the Premier Soccer League and CAF Confederations Cup.
He has been linked with Young Africans of Tanzania, Richards Bay and Kaizer Chiefs. However, Amakhosi seem to be closer to winning the tussle for his signature after reportedly agreeing terms with the player and Gallants.
Eligible for both Zimbabwe and South Africa
Less drama is expected in his national team allegiance. Although eligible for both Zimbabwe and South Africa, It appears Marumo’s 17 goal hero this past season has his heart set on playing for Bafana Bafana.
“I believe the national team coach does know that I am South African, I think it’s just a matter of me working harder. I cannot think of a situation where I have felt like my name is hindering me from certain things,” he said.
