Former Orlando Pirates striker Bernard Morrison has claimed that Tanzanian giants Young Africans; Yanga have a much bigger fan base than Kaizer Chiefs.
Morrison, who played his football in South Africa for two years at Pirates made the observation following Yanga’s Federation Cup triumph over Azam FC most recently.
“The numbers the club [Yanga] has is more than Kaizer Chiefs,” said Morrison in an interview with FARPost.
Amakhosi, who were once known as the ‘Cup Kings’ of SA football haven’t won silverware in eight seasons. They last clinched a trophy back in 2015, the Premiership title. But despite enduring a trophy drought, they remain the most followed team in SA.
On the other hand, Yanga have won six trophies in the last two seasons including two Tanazian Premier League titles. In addition, they went all the way in the CAF Confederation Cup, losing in the final.
Morrison, who parted ways with Pirates in 2018 added: “Going to Kaizer Chiefs comes with its own pressure, but as a player, you have to deliver. Playing for big clubs means you have to be ready for everything.
“If you are moving from Yanga and going to South Africa to play for Kaizer Chiefs, you just have to be ready. For me, I think the pressure is here almost similar to that of Chiefs.
“Even when Kaizer Chiefs go for away games, they don’t get this massive crowd. But here you get huge numbers every time you go for a match. You have to be ready.”

Meanwhile, Young Africans parted ways with their head coach Nasreddine Nabi. The latter is interestingly linked with a move to Chiefs.
Reports have suggested that Nabi, who also offers in Egypt, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia is currently in discussion with Amakhosi over a potential deal to take over from Arthur Zwane.
