Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly revived their interest in Venezuela international Edson Castillo.
The Soweto giants have already bolstered their squad for the 2022/23 season as they want to challenge for trophies while continuing to re-build. They ended last campaign fifth on the log standings, while also failing to qualify for the inter-club competition. In addition, Chiefs extended their trophy drought to eight years.
Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has joined Chiegs on a pre-contract from SuperSport United, while Given Msimangoand Mduduzi Mdantsane are said to have penned deals with Amakhosi.
The latest player seemingly set to join Chiefs is midfielder Castillo, Ā who currently plays for Monagas in the Venezuelan Primera DivisiĆ³n.Ā
Castillo has been on Chiefsā radar since January and the club has reopened discussions with the player.
It has been reported that Chiefs were eager to sign Castillo, who was a free agent at the time in January after leaving Caracas. However, the deal fell through and he re-joined his ex-club Monagas on a short-term deal.
Chiefs are making great efforts to sign the midfielder with several media reports stating that the DStv Premiership club has agreed personal terms with Venezuela international.Ā
Venezuela replacement Njabulo Blom
He is seen as a perfect replacement for Njabulo Blom who left Chiefs for Major League Soccer side St Louis City SC.
Deemed as ‘technically gifted’, with a good work rate and an eye for goal, the 29-year-old Castillo can be deployed in a six or eight role.
On the international level, he made his debut for Venezuela back in 2021 in the Copa America.Ā

And at club level Edson Castillo has featured in over 200Ā matchesĀ in Venezuela, Azerbaijan,Ā and Mexico.
He will be in action for Monagas against Argentina giants Boca Juniors on 30 June in a game that will likely be his last for the club.
