The list of clubs interested in Khama Billiat keeps getting longer with a surprise East Asia suitor joining the race for his signature.

The former Zimbabwe international is out of contract at the end of June and could move on a free transfer.

Chinese Super League giants are the latest to join the race to sign Kaizer Chiefs midfielder.

Young Africans had appeared to be leading the pack of clubs after Billiat’s signature before reports of Beijing Guaon bringing out the cheque book to bid for a player who becomes a free agent at the end of this month.

“Beijing Guaon have been in touch with Khama’s camp and are keen to have a closer look at the player. They are aware of his contract situation at Kaizer Chiefs and believe that he would be an important addition. The club’s coach worked in South Africa and knows Khama very well,” said the source.

Former Ajax Cape Town coach Stanley Menzo manages the Chinese Super League side and is reported to be pushing to add the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder to his squad.

Menzo was appointed Ajax Cape Town Coach in October 2016 before the former Netherlands goalkeeper was fired just before Christmas in 2017 with the club languishing second from bottom.

This week, sources close to the negotiations said they were resigned to Billiat leaving Chiefs when his contract expires at the end of June.

“The silence from Kaizer Chiefs suggests that the club has decided to let Khama leave for free. The contract expires in a few weeks and I honestly do not see any late deal being reached to keep him longer than the end of June,” said the insider.

Amakhosi had suggested keeping the injury hit star for another season only if he agrees to a 50% pay cut, a move the 32-year-old’s camp is said to have rejected.

“I have heard of that proposal but I do not see Khama Billiat accepting such an offer when he has quite a few options. I know Young Africans of Tanzania have expressed interest in his services. They are not the only club that are watching the proceedings unfold around his contract,” said the source.
