SuperSport United are resigned to lose Jamie Webber at the end of the month when his contract ends, and two PSL clubs are pursuing the midfielder.

Webber is out of contract on 30 June, and FARPost can confirm that the former youth international has yet to renew his deal.

The development means Webber will be free to join any club of his choice. Webber progressed well after joining SuperSport from Stellenbosch FC five years ago under the tutelage of Kaitano Tembo. He established himself as a vital cog in the Matsatsantsa squad.

WEBBER STRUGGLED FOR GAME TIME

However, following the arrival of Gavin Hunt, who came in with Orlando Pirates’ loanee Siphesihle Ndlovu and Grant Margeman from Mamelodi Sundowns, Webber struggled for game time.

In the just-ended 2022/23 campaign, he only made 18 appearances [14 starts] in all domestic competitions compared to 31 last season [28 starts].

Indications are that Swallows FC and Sekhukhune United have shown interest in the 25-year-old.

“SuperSport were also not so keen to keep him, maybe because he didn’t fit into the coach’s plans. Sekhukhune United and Swallows have shown interest in him. It’s still too early though to see where he is likely to end,” a source told FARPost.

KAIZER CHIEFS NOT INTERESTED

Earlier reports had been that he was on Kaizer Chiefs’ wishlist. However, the Soweto giants have not made any move for the player.

Meanwhile, SuperSport will be eager to retain the midfield duo of Margeman and Ndlovu after they sparkled this season.

The former Ajax Cape Town star, Margeman, was crowned Players’ Player of the Season at the end of his loan spell.

Interestingly, Ndlovu was also in the running for the award. The Pretoria side will have to wait and see if Sundowns and Pirates would be eager to extend the loan terms.
