Former West Ham United midfielder and Platinum Stars coach Peter Butler has joined a Botswana Premier League side.

The Briton previously worked for the now-defunct Platinum Stars, although it was a short spell.

This was after his time with the Botswana national team. Now, after leaving the Liberia national team job.

BUTLER JOINS GABORONE UNITED

Butler has since been appointed as Gaborone United’s Sporting Director. Butler’s appointment was confirmed by the Gaborone outfit. He will be tasked with running the development side [youth structures], the senior men’s and women’s teams.

Butler has, for a while, been a close associate of GU Director Nicholas Zakhem, and the two have been reunited as the club will bank on the technical expertise of the Englishman.

Butler has a knack for unearthing talent, and he is largely responsible for giving national team debuts to a majority of the current crop of national team players.

He is passionate about youth development and once formed a national talent identification program in Botswana which gave players in the rural areas a chance to showcase their talents.

Peter Butler brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked in Asia and Africa in recent years.

The South African coach, Ramoreboli, is on the verge of winning the league title.

They play Holy Ghost on Wednesday in what could be a decisive game. Ramoreboli made his name when he won the COSAFA Cup title in 2020 before moving to Botswana.

He guided Galaxy to the CAF Champions League group stages in 2021.
